The little things…

May 25, 2011

She stands in front of me with her long arms outstretched “Up?” She says. “Can we use our big girl words?” I ask. “Mommy, can you pick me up? Pwwwwwweeese?” she cries. I lift her up and her skinny legs dangle against mine. Her feet touch my knees and her hair smells like summer. “I wike your earwings Mommy” she says while trying to pull them out of my ears. “I like your eyes” I tell her. She blinks her big eyes and mile longs lashes at me and tells me “Dora has eyes too. So does Daddy. Everyone has eyes” she pauses to think some more about this. “Dirts don’t have eyes,” she says proudly. “You are right. Dirt does not have eyes.” “Do tables have eyes?” she asks with a smile, already knowing the answer. “Yes” I say. “No Mommy!!! Tables don’t have eyes.” She then wants to get down because I am not playing her game the way she wants to play it.

I am sitting on the couch and she comes up and asks “Mommy, why is there a baby in your belly?” “Why?” I repeat to give myself more time to come up with an answer. “Who gave you that baby in your belly?” she asks. “Well I guess Daddy gave it to me.” “Oh, that was nice of him” she remarks, completely satisfied with that answer. “Can I touch the baby, Mommy?” She asks while trying to lift up my shirt. “Well you can touch my belly but you can’t touch the baby until the baby is born. It’s too little right now and it’s growing in my belly”. She thinks about that concept for a minute. “That’s silly, Mommy! You are so silly.” “I know!” I tell her, glad that conversation is over with, for now…

The best part of my day is when I get to pick Kaela up from daycare. She gets a huge smile on her face and comes running toward me while yelling “MOMMY!!!” at the top of her tiny lungs. She will show me what she did that day or what prizes she got for being in the Clean Plate Club or what she got for helping clean up. She will say bye to her teachers and her friends and then tell me all about her day. Usually it’s about who knocked her down or who got in big trouble that day. Come to find out, most of it is not true, but I love to hear the stories.

I still struggle with the fact that I work so much. I have so many little memories but I feel like I miss a lot. Only seeing her for a couple of hours each night and on the weekends is tough. The guilt is immeasurable. That also makes any time for me non-existent. I know that adding a new baby to this will only add more guilt and less me-time. Then I think about how I will be able create new memories, with a new little person who will call me Mommy and my heart stops beating for just a second. How lucky am I?

Baby on board…

May 12, 2011

So here are the name suggestions Kaela has come up with for the new baby:

1. Red paint
2. W paint
3. Octopus
4. Princess frog
5. Baby

I guess we will have to come up with our own list this time. We are still undecided about finding out the gender, but I promise we will try to come up with a name before the baby is 3 days old this time… maybe.

Anyway, we are excited and know how lucky we are to be able to bring another little one into our crazy lives.

Here is a picture at 14 weeks…

Girl’s Weekend…

May 1, 2011

Devon was away all weekend, so that left a lot of hours for Kaela and I to entertain each other. Luckily the weather was nice so we could get out of the house. We spent some time at the park and found a stream to play in. It was fun, until I had to make her leave… I didn’t take pictures of that and I’m sure the other people at the park thought I was stabbing her, but here’s some pictures of the calm before the storm.
